AcroYoga
Yoga, acrobatics, and partner trust β balance as a shared conversation.
About AcroYoga
AcroYoga blends yoga, acrobatics, and partner-based balance with a strong emphasis on trust, spotting, and coordinated movement. It is practised in trios β base, flyer, and spotter β and ranges from therapeutic partner yoga to advanced dynamic acrobatics.
Yoga Wheel Scores
Flyer positions require significant hip and shoulder flexibility; base needs joint mobility.
Bases develop exceptional core, leg, and shoulder strength supporting another person's body weight.
The defining demand β multi-plane dynamic balance between two people is the entire practice.
Breath coordination between partners is practised but less codified than in solo styles.
Trust, communication, and non-verbal attunement create a unique mindfulness context.
History & Origins
AcroYoga's early codification is commonly traced to Jason Nemer and Jenny Sauer-Klein, who founded AcroYoga International in 2003 in San Francisco. The practice draws from traditional acrobatics, Thai yoga massage, and vinyasa yoga, creating a playful and highly social discipline that has spread rapidly through festival culture globally.
