Kundalini
Awaken dormant energy through breath, movement and mantra.
About Kundalini
Kundalini Yoga combines dynamic breathwork (pranayama), repetitive movements (kriyas), mantra chanting, mudras and meditation to awaken and move energy through the body's chakra system. Classes are intense, rhythmic and often deeply transformative.
Yoga Wheel Scores
Physical flexibility is not a primary goal; gentle movement serves the energy work.
Repetitive kriya exercises build endurance but physical strength is secondary.
Some kriyas include balance elements, but this is not a core focus.
Breath of Fire, long deep breathing and specific pranayamas are the heart of Kundalini practice.
Mantra, meditation and altered states of consciousness make this one of the most mentally transformative styles.
History & Origins
Rooted in ancient tantric and Sikh traditions, Kundalini Yoga was brought to the West in 1969 by Yogi Bhajan (Harbhajan Singh Khalsa), who controversially broke with the tradition of teaching it only in secret. He founded 3HO (Healthy, Happy, Holy Organization) which spread the practice globally. The style is closely associated with white clothing, turbans, and Sikh-influenced mantras.
