Power Yoga
Strength, sweat and flow β yoga meets the gym.
About Power Yoga
Power Yoga is a vigorous, fitness-oriented vinyasa style influenced by Ashtanga but without a fixed sequence. Classes are physically demanding, fast-paced and varied, making it highly accessible to gym-goers and athletes seeking both strength and flexibility.
Yoga Wheel Scores
Dynamic stretching within flows develops practical working flexibility.
High-repetition sequences, arm balances and holds build muscular endurance and real strength.
Athletic balance postures (warriors, lunges, arm balances) are core to the practice.
Breath is synchronized with movement but approached practically rather than spiritually.
Focus is primarily physical; the style is intentionally accessible and less philosophical.
History & Origins
Power Yoga emerged in the early 1990s in the United States, pioneered by Beryl Bender Birch on the East Coast and Bryan Kest on the West Coast β both Ashtanga-trained teachers who adapted the practice to make it more accessible and fitness-focused for Western students. The term was popularized by fitness media and quickly spread globally.
